Week One of Operation Housewife is almost over. I feel like I've been very hard on myself because I didn't get the meal planning done until Thursday. So, to put me in a better mood, this is what I did well:
Woke up at 7:00 am- two days in a row (never slept later than 8:30)
Bible Study- three days
Kept the house tidy and the kitchen clean all week
Yea me!
Also I cooked dinner last night (mushroom, beef, and barley soup) and I have a plan for tonight (oven fried chicken with rice and salad) and tomorrow (baked beans with some sort of main dish)
So even though we ate out three times this week, I feel it has not been a complete failure. And I didn't eat the cookie Seth gave to me yesterday. Woohoo!
The Housewife From Heck
For all the not-so-organized housewives who are pulling their hair out at the thought of cooking dinner for their families (because the kitchen is too messy to cook in and we wouldn't want to make a bigger mess).

Meal Planning Sucks
I have recently found out from my doctor that I am hypoglycemic and on my way to being diabetic. She has recommended I start a Low GI diet. Unfortunately, I live on pasta and bread and don't really have the motivation to cook anything else. And all these low GI recipes have crazy things in them like mushrooms, and onions, and garlic! Seriously, barley? Who eats barley?
They are full of things I used to buy before I realized molding in the veggie drawer is not what God had in mind for these foods.
That is why meal planning is a big part of Operation Housewife. Hopefully by planning ahead, I will be able to plan and prepare healthy meals for myself and my family. However, finding recipes, shopping for them, preparing, cooking, cleaning up after, etc. is so much work! If it doesn't come out of a box, it's really too much effort.
I really don't want to do it. But I will! Tonight is the night. I will plan the meals for this week and shop tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Operation Housewife
Okay so I'm not a very good blogger because I don't ever post anything. But I am hoping to change that with Operation Housewife (the theory is that if I blog about it, I won't fail). There are three parts to O.H.
1. Bible Study
2. Cooking/ Meal planning
3. Cleaning
I spent last week getting a household notebook put together and I created a brand new daily schedule and cleaning schedule. Of course, in order to get all the things done that I need to do I have to wake up 2 hours earlier.
In the process of creating my new schedule and notebook, I have been reading many websites and blogs by moms. They all seem so organized and sane (although being that organized has to be a sign of insanity, right?). There is actually a mom out there who lives on a farm, grinds her own wheat, and cooks her own food. I want to be like that! But I don't think it's very likely. So this is for all the not-so-organized housewives who are pulling out their hair at the thought of cooking dinner for their families (because the kitchen is too messy to cook in and we wouldn't want to make a bigger mess).

Maybe Next Week
We ran errands yesterday so I felt pretty productive. We even went to the library! That was really fun. We might just have to make a weekly library night.
I didn't really get anything done today, however. Oh! I won tickets to a home and lifestyle show on the radio. That was pretty useless but exciting. Maybe I'll get some really great ideas for my house.
I'll probably start the new schedule next Mon (24th). I am very good at being a procrastinator. Next week I'm visiting my mom for 3 days so it would probaly be better to start the routine when I'll have a whole week to do it. I do have goals for next week though. Kind of a jump start o the new progam. Seth will be waking up at 930 and going to bed at 930 (asleep by 10). I wish we were one of those lucky families whose kids went to bed at 8:00 but I think I would function even less if I had to get up at 6:00 in the morning. So I guess I'll count my blessings (while sleeping in).

A new year, a new me
Okay, I realize I'm a little late for the new year post (but I haven't posted since October so it's probably not surprising). The new year started with son and husband being very sick. Since I had to take care of a sick child (poor hubby was pretty much on his own), everything fell apart. My Christmas tree is still up but hasn't had ornaments on it for a week! The whole house looks like it exploded. It really made me realize (again) the importance of being organized and neat. The house was pretty messy but I couldn't keep up with it once the guys got sick. So this year I will clean everyday. I will plan meals every week. I might even exercise. I found an awesome website to help with meal planning ( http://www.saymmm.com/) and I'm writing up a daily schedule that I will stick to. I know there are moms out there that function and even have time for fun. This year I will be one of them.

I will never be Martha Stewart
Sigh... My to do list only has 12 items and some of them are repeats (doing the dishes, etc.). Martha has about 25 different to do lists. Now I'm supposed to think by season? Tomorrow I WILL be up at 8am so I'll have time to do the dishes and a load of laundry. I WILL work out. 8:15 will probably be okay. I can always do laundry later.
